Description

1970 entsteht die Graphikmappe zu Lewis Carrolls Wunderhorn mit 36 farbigen Lithographien. Max Ernst wählte gemeinsam mit dem Kunsthistoriker Werner Spies einige Texte des Schriftstellers aus, die der Künstler mit humorvoll-poetischen farbigen Lithographien illustriert. Die Frottage aus 1969 ist eine Vorarbeit zu Blatt III dieser graphischen Mappe, die eine Hommage an den Mathematiker und Schriftsteller darstellt. Ganz im Sinne der Logik Carrolls lassen die Zeichen und Symbole keine unmittelbare Erkenntnis zu; sie müssen erst entschlüsselt werden. – Gänzlich auf Unterlage kaschiert und am oberen Rand im Passepartout montiert, sonst gut.
