Description
Ausgebildet in Christiania und an den Akademien in Karlsruhe und Düsseldorf, spezialisierte sich der Künstler bald auf die Darstellung von Figuren in malerischer, meist westnorwegischer Landschaft. Dabei wurde er von der romantischen Kunst seines Karlsruher Lehrers Hans Gude geprägt, der wie er aus Norwegen stammte. Dahl lebte viele Jahre lang in Berlin, besuchte seine Heimat aber immer im Sommer, um dort zu zeichnen und zu malen. Während seines Aufenthaltes in Balestrand am Sognefjord wurde er mehrmals von Kaiser Wilhelm II. besucht, der seine lebensfrohe Kunst sehr schätzte und ihm 1910 eine Professur verlieh.
