Description

Kleinschmidt zieht 1935 mit seiner Familie ins karge Dorf Ay bei Senden. Hier entsteht das vorliegende Gemälde, wie auch ein sehr vergleichbares Aquarell (Lipps-Kant A148). Auf Letzterem ist eine variierte Ansicht des Tisches und des Arrangements dargestellt. Die barock anmutende Pracht und Fülle dieses Stilllebens steht in striktem Gegensatz zu Kleinschmidts Lebenssituation, die ihn bald zwingen wird, alles hinter sich zu lassen. Der eigentliche Inhalt des Stilllebens sind jedoch nicht die dargestellten Gegenstände, sondern die Malerei selbst, die Kleinschmidt in einem Fest der Formen und Farben feiert.
