In ihrer minimalistischen Strenge lässt diese Arbeit an Kirchenfenster, aber auch an die Performances des Künstlers denken, bei denen Byars häufig ganz in Schwarz und Gold gekleidet war. Das Papier zeigt Spuren von kontrolliert und regelmäßig ausgeführten Eingriffen. Die Faltungen sind symmetrisch, am linken Rand ist eine numerische Skala notiert. Diese kulminiert am Scheitelpunkt in dem stilisierten Wort “Why”, das sich mit seinen gezeichneten Sternen dem Raster entzieht und ein Element der Anarchie in die meditative Arbeit bringt. – Sehr gut erhalten.
