Description
Verso mit einem Berliner Zollstempel in Rot. Corinth hat hier seinen Freund und Malerkollegen Paul Bach (1866-1919) auf dem Sterbebett erfasst. Schon 1901 hatte Corinth seinen Freund, als Jägeroffizier verkleidet, gemalt (siehe Berend-Corinth 224). In dem Gemälde zeigt sich Corinth als einfühlsamer Porträtist, der seinem Freund eine humoristische Strenge verleiht. Ähnlich sensibel porträtiert er hier den aufgebarten Künstler, mit markanten Gesichtszügen und friedlichem, fast konzentriert wirkendem Ausdruck. – Verso in den oberen Ecken Papierausdünnungen und ein kleines Loch durch alte Montage. Allgemein in sehr gutem Zustand.
