Description
Aus einer weitverzweigten Künstlerfamilie stammend, hatte Wittmer zunächst an der Münchner Akademie unter Peter Cornelius studiert und war 1828 mit einem Rom-Stipendium nach Italien gekommen. Dort verkehrte er im Kreis von Thorvaldsen, Overbeck, Koch, Veith und Wagner, unter deren Einfluss er sich weiterentwickelte. – Im Randbereich leicht wellig und vereinzelt mit Gebrauchspuren, ansonsten schön.
