Nach der Rückkehr in sein Geburtsland, das er bereits als Sechzehnjähriger verlassen hatte, benötigte Feininger zwei Jahre der Eingewöhnung, bis er wieder Ölbilder malen konnte. Die Produktion dieser Zeit konzentriert sich ganz auf Zeichnungen und Aquarelle, in denen er auch stilistisch neue Wege erkundet. Dabei ist es vor allem die Küstenlinie von Connecticut, die ihm Motive liefert, wie in diesem Blatt, in dem er Büsche und Bäume mit der gleichen energischen Abstraktionskraft schildert wie die atmosphärischen Effekte. – Sehr gut erhalten.
