Landscape with shepherds and neoclassical monument. Pen and brown ink and brown wash on laid paper with watermark “crowned coat-of-arms with fleur de lis” (Cf. Heawood 1812). C. 29.5 : 39 cm.
Description
Ruhige, breit angelegte Landschaftskomposition, die das Auge im Zickzack einen Weg entlang zum klassizistischen Sarkophag im Mittelgrund führt. Dabei bilden die Hirten mit ihrem gemächlich ziehenden Vieh einen reizvollen Kontrast zum edlen Grabmonument, das der beschaulichen Szene den Vanitas-Aspekt unterlegt. Papier vom Künstler selber am unteren Rand ca. 4 cm breit angestückt. Rechte untere Ecke mit einem hinterlegten Riss. An den oberen Ecken auf die Unterlage montiert, dort jeweils mit einem Riss. Vereinzelt leicht fleckig.
Provenienz: Sammlung Johann Nepomuk Seiler, verso mit dem Stempel (nicht bei Lugt).
