Landscape with houses. Watercolour on firm wove. (1941). C. 24 : 33 cm. Signed on the reverse.
Nay served in France during the Second World War. In spite of being classified as one of the “degenerated artists” he kept on drawing and painting. He dedicated himself mainly to watercolours which were inspired by his French surroundings.
Description
Im Zweiten Weltkrieg war Nay ab 1940 als Kartenzeichner an der Westfront in Frankreich eingesetzt. Als “entarteter” Künstler unterlag er dem Malverbot, dennoch schuf er in dieser Zeit mehrere Aquarelle. Angeregt durch die Eindrücke der französischen Landschaft ist wohl auch vorliegendes Bl., in dem sich die lyrisch-rhytmischen Farbfelder der späteren Kompositionen andeuten. Im Passepartoutausschnitt leicht nachgedunkelt. Sonst in sehr gutem Zustand.
