Description
1924 erschien bei R. Piper & Co. in München das Werk “Alfred Kubin: 20 Bilder zur Bibel”. Die Zeichnungen dafür entstanden bereits 1923. Hier handelt es sich wohl um eine verworfene Fassung von Bl. 4 der Folge. Das veröffentliche Blatt (Marks 989) gibt die Landschaft dramatisch gesteigert, auch ist der Engel nun in Helm und Rüstung. In der vorliegenden Zeichnung wirkt das Ringen eher wie eine Umarmung, die friedliche abendliche Landschaft mit der Schafherde tun ein Übriges, um den Kampf zu entschärfen. Gebräunt und stockfleckig.
