A peaceful, timeless landscape. Hofer sought solace in nature during this period of his life when he had been expelled from the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts, his pictures being classified as “degenerate” by the Nazi government. The work will be included in the catalogue of paintings by Karl Bernhard Wohlert.
Description
Stille, meditative Ansicht, in der Hofer auf jede Staffage, aber auch auf Zeichen des technischen Fortschritts verzichtet. In den zeitlosen Landschaften aus dieser Periode scheint sich Hofer eine Art Zuflucht vor der immer schwieriger werdenden Gegenwart zu schaffen: Seine Bilder gelten als “entartet”, er selbst wurde 1938 aus der Preußischen Akademie der Künste ausgeschlossen. Die vorliegende Darstellung ist wohl in der Nähe von Konstanz entstanden, wo sich Hofer zeitweise mit seiner zweiten Frau im Hause eines Freundes aufhielt. – Sehr gut erhalten.
Karl Bernhard Wohlert hat uns freundlicherweise telefonisch bestätigt, dass das Gemälde in sein demnächst erscheinendes Werkverzeichnis der Gemälde Karl Hofers aufgenommen worden ist.
