Heinrich Campendonk

Ländliche Impression (Selbstbildnis im Atelier).

Details

Rural impressions (Self portrait in the studio). (19)18. C. 96 : 69 cm. Signed with the monogram and dated lower right. Framed. After the death of his close friend and neighbour Franz Marc Campendonk leaves Sindelsdorf in 1916 and moves into a large farmhouse at the Bavarian Lake Starnberg with his family. The present work is a characteristic example of the idyllic works he created there during the last year of the war, even if it is rather unusual in its warm, transparent hues.

Description

Firmenich 731.
Provenienz: Sotheby’s London, 3.12.1986, Lot 195; Privatbesitz, Deutschland.
