Beschreibung

The present painting adapts, with minor modifications, Jacopo Bassano’s large-scale composition in the National Gallery, Prague (inv. no. 09026), dated around 1575. Of the approximately 30 surviving religious night scenes associated with Jacopo Bassano, not a single one is signed. In 1992, Livia Alberton Vinco da Sesso suggested that many of these unsigned nocturnal scenes were painted by his sons Francesco or Leandro after a prototype of their father. It is quite possible that Francesco Bassano is the author of our painting.

Vorliegende Tafel adaptiert mit kleinen Modifikationen die großformatige, um 1575 datierte Komposition Jacopo Bassanos in der Nationalgalerie, Prag (Inv.-Nr. 09026). Von den etwa 30 erhaltenen religiösen Nachtszenen, die mit Jacopo Bassano in Verbindung gebracht werden, ist keine einzige signiert. Livia Alberton Vinco da Sesso äußerte 1992 die Vermutung, dass viele dieser unsignierten nächtlichen Szenen von den Söhnen Francesco oder Leandro nach einem Prototyp des Vaters gemalt wurden. Gut möglich, dass Francesco Bassano der Autor unseres Bildes ist.

Nostro dipinto adatta, con insignificante modifiche, la composizione di grande formato di Jacopo Bassano conservata alla Galleria Nazionale di Praga, datata intorno al 1575 (inv. n. 09026). Delle circa 30 scene notturne di carattere religioso che sono associate a Jacopo Bassano, nessuna è firmata. Nel 1992 Livia Alberton Vinco da Sesso ha suggerito che molte di queste scene notturne non firmate siano state dipinte dai figli Francesco o Leandro dopo un prototipo del padre. È molto probabile che Francesco Bassano sia l’autore del nostro dipinto.
