19th century art
For many decades now, 19th century art has held a firm place at Karl & Faber. The focus lies on works on paper. However, oil paintings are increasingly becoming an area of interest at our auctions.
Over the years, numerous well-known collections of 19th century art have found their way to Karl & Faber. In 1979, for example, the 150th auction included one of the most important private German collections of drawings dating from around 1780 to 1850.
In 2007, we were entrusted both with a South German private collection of over 40 watercolours, drawings and prints by Adrian Ludwig Richter, and with the important collection of 18th and 19th century drawings by the American patron of the arts of German origin, Walter Bareiss.
In the autumn of 2008, we received the collection of Judge Johann Nepomuk Seiler. This compilation of drawings and prints, mostly by German or Swiss artists, has not been accessible to the public for the past 120 years. Besides rare and beautiful works, which are particularly impressive due to their freshness and excellent condition, the collection also includes numerous prints available to buyers depending on a smaller budget.
